About

I've always been a fan of RPGs.  One of the first games that I ever played as a kid was the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe.  Used to play it with my dad all the time, and it was great!  As the years passed, I slowly got exposed to more and more of these sorts of games, especially after getting a hold of an NES.  This exposed me to a bunch of new titles in the genre, not the least of which was Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior.  From this point on, I was hooked on RPGs, and developed an insatiable appetite for more.

With every new console to come down the line, I'd keep a close eye on what RPGs were planned for it.  Would it have a Final Fantasy?  How's that Phantasy Star series I've been hearing so much about?  That Persona game sure looks interesting!  And on it went for decades, as I consumed one game after the next.

In recent years, though, it's been a lot harder to keep up with some of these gargantuan RPGs that have come down the pipe.  100+ hours sounds great on paper, but actually finding the time for one of these games, let alone several, has been pretty tough, and that's where handheld RPGs have come into the mix.  Most of these sorts of games are a lot shorter (not all, but most), and the idea of playing through portable RPGs doesn't seem quite so daunting as their console or PC-based brethren.  With that, I started to make the switch to these handheld games, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.  Smaller games that I can make time for.  If I'm busy and have to step away from a game for a bit, I'm not scrambling to find a save point.  Just close my DS, and do whatever it is I need to do, then come back to the game when I have some time to play again.  Easy.

Handheld games have also shown me where the lion's share of the best JRPGs of recent years have gone.  As much as some pundits try to claim that the genre is in trouble, or dying, I can only shake my head because this simply isn't true.  There are plenty of fantastic JRPGs coming out every year.  The majority of them, though, have been heading to the portable systems.

So, this site is a celebration of the handheld RPG.  They're fantastic fun, very convenient, and just the sort of game for me when I want to spend time with the genre these days.  I hope you find this blog interesting, and worth spending time with.  Come back often.  There's plenty of discussion to be had about these fabulous games. ^_^
